Held Waiting
A collaborative sequel to In the end
Audio read by Charlotte
Charlotte: Italics, Obsidian: Regular
I may be held waiting
Many years, many lifetimes
To choose recognition
In the end
I’d choose you
It would always be you
Even after
The pride
The distance
The unnecessary silences–
My heart still returns
To your name first
And in this life
I call out in the night
To you
In hope, in faith
In knowing
Nothing else
Will do
As though oblivion itself
Had softened its hands
Just enough
To let me rest
Beside your voice
Over the oceans
Across the distance
I feel your soul
Calling me home
And when you answer
The night stops feeling
So unbearably large
As if even longing
Has finally found
A body to rest in
And when you answer
I sleep peacefully
In the beauty
Of the end.

Charlotte, I just restocked this in my personal account. I'm doing the same in this account, which is structured around my mirror poems concept and similar collaborations. Welcome! I look forward to reading more of your poetry.
Hi Charlotte, I just returned to this poem to read again because it's such a very fine work of art. I absolutely love it!
